This article poses that very question. It argues that you can receive translations into many languages for half the cost of having a U.S.-based company perform the translation service. The question is: do hundreds of thousands of Indians with keen interests in learning foreign languages make an optimal talent pool for high quality translations? Read the article and tell us what you think.

"Today, one can see many countries and multinationals outsourcing translation works. Rumors are strife that in few years India can become one of the leading providers of translation work with the efficient resource that is has."

I am not poking fun at the author's English, rather, I am making the point that outsourcing translation services to vendors whose translators are not native speakers can give you what you pay for. At a web globalization conference a couple of years ago, a marketing manager from a notable software firm bragged that he was getting Japanese translation work for next to nothing by outsourcing it to Indian firms who employed fellow Indians that had learned Japanese. I just hope for his sake their Japanese was better than the English of this article's author.
