Maurice Druon says of European languages:

"Italian is the language of song, German is the language of philosophy and English is good for poetry, but French is best for precision," Druon said of his quest. "French should be the authoritative language for law because it is related to Latin — in which Roman law was written — and it was also the language of the Napoleonic Code."

What do you think? Should there be a supreme language of legal documents in the European Union? If so, should it be one that is most commonly spoken and understood, one that is more traditionally used for this purpose, or a language like Esperanto, some type of artificial lingua franca?

Perhaps making French the authoritative language for law will help hasten the linguistic assimilation of the "euro" in France.
