Although currently not mandatory, India's push for Hindi translation of medicine labels indicates a turning point in this country for the importance of having vital information in patients' native language. 

Mumbai, Mar 3 : Being illiterate in English will no longer come in the way of people knowing what's written on their medicine strips, as the government along with the pharma sector has decided to get drug labels printed in Hindi from April 1.

"Decision has been taken to to have drug labels in Hindi," Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals Joint Secretary G S Sandhu said here on sidelines of an international pharmaceutical conference.
